About the PSL Betway Premiership Clubs

The PSL Betway Premiership features 16 professional football clubs drawn from across South Africa. The league includes historic clubs like Orlando Pirates (founded 1937), AmaZulu (1932) and Cape Town Spurs (1919), alongside modern outfits like Cape Town City (2016) and Casric Stars (2021).

The "Big Three" — Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns — dominate South African football history between them. Mamelodi Sundowns are the most decorated club in the PSL era, while Kaizer Chiefs hold the record for most league titles overall. Orlando Pirates are the only South African club to have won the CAF Champions League, doing so in 1995.

Clubs are based across six provinces — Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape — giving the league genuine national reach. Click any club to see their current league position, recent results and upcoming fixtures.

The bottom three clubs at the end of the season are relegated to the National First Division. Promotion and relegation playoffs can also affect the final composition of the division for the following campaign.
